1812 Classic Head Large Cent 1C ANACS Soapbox VF Details S-288 Clip Mint Error
This date had a relatively high mintage for the Classic Head type and is tied with 1814 as the issue most often seen in higher circulated grades with decent planchets. It is thus a favorite with type collectors. Four die marriages resulted from four separate die pairs, though one of these varieties (S-291) employed a reverse die used previously for the 1811/0 overdate cents. Two varieties (S-288 and -289, photos) display a Large Date (numeral 8), while the other two (S-290 and -291) have a Small Date, but there is little difference in rarity or value.
