1820 Coronet Head Large Cent 1C NGC MS64RB

1820 is the latest date to have surfaced with the vast Randall Hoard in the 1860s. It remains common today in Mint State, at least for the die marriage included in that stash, N-13 (photos). Like the 1818 cents from the Randall Hoard, this variety is characterized by a series of die cracks connecting the date with all stars. Of the remaining 14 die marriages, three are overdates and are described in a separate entry. The non-overdate marriages are about evenly divided between Large Date and Small Date obverses. Rare varieties for 1820 include N-4, -6 and -14, while N-5, -8, -9 and -12 are moderately scarce.
